So there we were ready to eat, looking at what's on offer in a semi fast food joint... The good lady wife
asks about the "Indonesian pork dish" the girl says, "She likes it" and smiles, good enough for my wife
who after looking at a bunch of food joints is now salivating and wants to eat.
It came with a rice side dish so it looked oriental enough. We shared the meal and found it was loaded
with Jalapeno chillies and beans... WOW was it hot! Don't get me wrong I like hot food, however this one
had so many chillies it burnt and not in a good way... I started to put the chillies to one side they made
about 1/3 of the dishes ingredients. Yow! That's hot, thankfully the rice cooled things off a little and
suffice to say we left the chillies and ate most of the rest.
On leaving I asked the same girl... "Do you like hot food?" "No not really" came her reply, I then
suggested she warn people about the dish we had as it was so hot. She took our advice kindly and we
left.
Question... Did she really eat it before hand to be able to say "She likes it..." or did she fake it because
she gets asked about the food on offer so often?
Point/s...
- Know your product and be able to qualify the customer/s regarding their needs. If she had said "I
like it, but it's very hot..." We may have made another choice (I'm sure of that!)
- Sincerity, If she had said "Yes I love hot food" I would not even be mentioning it here, however
sincerity is an important issue in business. There is a saying that says "Sincerity, learn to fake that
and you've got it made." My radar turns off when Sally asks people about their food, the good old
"Is it nice?" So I did not notice any insincerity straight off.
- Indonesian? With Jalapeno Chillies and beans I think perhaps not...
In summary...
Business is all about customer relationships and the experiences they have, when these two happen
well and the product and services on offer fit the need then a profit can be realised. Aim to make sure the
relationship is genuine (and suitable) and the experiences positive. Suffice to say this experience was
not brilliant (not a complete failure mind you) but enough to make me want to jot it down.
